In April 2008, a remarkable group of artists, activists and scholars came together to take a message of hope, inspiration and action to communities across the country. It was a tour like no other – The Dangerous Ideas Tour.

Def Poet and MC Amir Sulaiman, acclaimed hip hop duo Poetic Pilgrimage, MC and Mozambican-born activist Mohammed Yahya, poet Warsan Shire and UK championship beatboxer R U KID joined the US civil rights campaigner and urban scholar Imam Johari Abdul-Malik and the UK’s Shaykh Michael Mumisa along with other special guests to present conscious lyrics, incendiary spoken word and revolutionary poetry that packed venues in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool.

From city to city the tour tackled the most important social and political issues of the day calling for a life without violence, for action against injustice, and for resistance against oppression. Night after night audiences responded with enthusiasm and energy. They knew they were experiencing something special.

Filmmaker Ali Rafi was there to document this extraordinary tour. Now, for the first time, we take you behind the scenes to explore the motivation and the passion of those involved and to explore what made the Dangerous Ideas Tour a landmark event in the cultural history of British Islam.
