Scholars Condemn Killing in Gaza
ملخص 17/02/2010 الكاتب: Radical Middle Way

Events taking place in Gaza, Palestine, are deplorable. The imposition of a medieval-like barbaric embargo is causing untold suffering to the people living in the city.

To Conscientious People all over the World…

Events taking place in Gaza, Palestine, are deplorable. The imposition of a medieval-like barbaric embargo is causing untold suffering to the people living in the city. That all this destruction, displacement and pain is taking place is sad. But the fact that we are passive witnesses to all the injustice and cruelty being inflicted upon innocent children, women and innocent men is frightening – for it reflects the loss of our humanity and betrays both a wrapped sense of justice and double standards.

What is taking place in Gaza is an affront to civilized norms of behavior. Allowing such savage conduct to go unchallenged is to accept the rule of the jungle – that might is right. Passiveness to what is taking place is collaboration with evil: it is an affront to any understanding of justice, humanity and fair play. We call for solidarity among all people – regardless of their colour, race and creed – to stand up against the injustice and stop the suffering in Gaza City. The embargo has to be immediately lifted so that food and other emergency supplies such as medicine, water and electricity can be delivered without hindrance.

The continued victimization and oppression of the people in Gaza does not bode well for the future of the region and the entire world. Unless the situation changes fundamentally we should prepare for the worst – a scenario that would be detrimental to all. Unless justice is restored and all parties adhere to civilized behavior the suffering and the pain will continue with devastating conclusion. Therefore we call upon all good people to stand up and be counted by campaigning against persecution and injustice and for fairness and a just and tolerant society.

It is an absolute necessity for every human being wherever he/she is to do whatever is within his/her capacity to extend the hand of help in order to put an end to this terrifying tragedy.
